MONTHLY GAME

We, who are fortunate enough to play golf on the Highveld, really are spoilt with our Winter afternoons.  Last Thursday was a beautiful afternoon, jerseys were only worn late in the afternoon, when a small field of just 110 Gauteng Nomads were fortunate to play “down South” at Reading Country Club.  Understandably there was a lot of run on the fairways and the greens were very quick but true and fair.  There were a lot of Gary Player Knockout games played, on the afternoon, and I know of one game which went right up to the last hole.  One member of the losing pair had a four putt to lose the match by just one point but that’s what makes the Gary Player such an unpredictable competition!  The Forward Tees were a little better than last year but eight of them added up to just 8 metres, if you can call that Forward Tees!!

Congratulations to all the “new” tie recipients; David Brown 40, Ronnie Jones 30, Ian Taylor and Doug Hamilton 15, Allen Needham 15 and Mike Rickhoff 5, before you know it another 5 years will have just flown past.  It was especially great seeing Ron Jones, who has been a Non Active member for some years now, at Reading do come and join us again quite soon Ron.

Newie Heinz Vollmer went from zero to hero.  Matchbox winner at his first ever Nomad’s game to Divisional Winner at his second Nomad’s game, well played Heinz you now qualify for Gold Cup next April.

Welcome to Sean Johnston who was inducted on the evening.  Remember to diarise all the remaining Nomad’s games, for the year, and the more you participate the more fun you are going to have at Nomads.

It was nice to see Lucien Tager at a game again after being away for some months with some health issues.

A big thank you to “newies” Michael Heffill and Brian McLean for doing the starting, the 1st tee at Reading is a particularly tough starting hole being so far from the clubhouse.

Many thanks to Eugene Marx who did a super first time fines session.  It went very slickly and all your stories were enjoyed.

The spaghetti bolognaise went down very well, thanks to our Executive Committee, it was very good blotting paper.  In future you may be asked to let Bev know whether you will be staying for prizegiving as only 88 did stay and we booked for a lot more.

BIRTHDAY AND ANNIVERSARY WISHES

CONGRATULATIONS TO

Tony & Ana Pacheco on the arrival of their first grandchild a little boy, Alessandra.

JUST ME

Nomads please make sure of the date when you enter for a game, as there were 15 cancellations the day before the game.  You may not realise but this causes absolute havoc with the timesheet and our thanks go to Bev for, once again, sorting/re-arranging all the fourballs.

Many thanks, also to Bev, for taking over the portfolio of Golforama, as if she doesn’t already have enough to do.

A number of you are still NOT wearing BLACK golf trousers or shorts.  From next month the starters will send you back to the Equipment Officer, or the Club Pro, and you will not be allowed to tee off unless you are correctly dressed.

It was really sad to hear that we will be losing Bell’s as the countrywide whisky Sponsor with immediate effect.  We all extend a great big thanks to Bell’s for their fantastic 20-year sponsorship.

The Entry Forms are out for the Nomads’ 50th National Tournament, at Champagne Sports in the Southern Berg, and the slots are filling up quickly.  If you are even thinking about entering please get an Entry Form from Sean Ledden, fill it in right away and return it with your deposit NOW.

If you or your company would like to Sponsor the Inside Right Magazine the cost is R1200.00 + V.A.T. for a monthly edition, speak to Darren.
