NATIONAL CHAIRMAN’S WELCOME
Ever since I was inducted into Nomads our National tournament has been the high-
light of my Nomads calendar. For obvious reasons, this one will be the most special of
them all. I would like to extend a warm welcome to all those participating in the 59th
Nomads National Tournament - the Hornbill Nationals. On behalf of the Nomads Golf
Club Northerns and Koro Creek Bushveld Golf Estate we wish you a wonderful week.

Welcome to all 12 South African Captain’s from around the country and thank you for
your support during my year as National Chairman.

A special Nomadic welcome to all of our International visitors - to Ben Chikwakwata
and his Zimbabwe team, Joe Machokoto and his team from Botswana, Kel Hirini and
the Australian team, Wandile Simelane and the Eswatini team, Noel Vaughan and the
New Zealand team, to Brian Burger and his United Kingdom contingent and lastly, to
Courtland Sikazwe and his team from Zambia. It is wonderful to see all seven Interna-
tional Clubs represented at a South African Nationals, which I can’t recall having seen in a long time.

Northerns will be hosting a National Tournament for the seventh time. Previous winners of the Bert Hunt Trophy at a
Northerns hosted tournament were Gauteng (3), Zimbabwe, Natal and Easterns. Northerns have never won Nationals
on home soil – let’s see if they can change this in 2024 and also be one of the few clubs that successfully defend their
Bert Hunt title.

Much time and effort has gone into organising what promises to be an unforgettable experience. My sincere thanks
are extended to the Nationals Co-Ordinator, Eugene Barnard and his committee for their dedication, commitment and
enthusiasm. The generous offering of their free time, one of the principles of Nomads, is hugely appreciated.
May I also, on behalf of all Nomads, extend our gratitude to the committee, management, staff and members of Koro
Creek Bushveld Golf Estate for allowing us to use their magnificent facilities.
We have once again been fortunate to sustain the support of our National Sponsors and this year we welcome Holly-
wood Bets as a brand new National Sponsor. We are also grateful for the wonderful support of our many local sponsors.
In pursuance of our objectives, all our sponsors remain vital to our cause. It is greatly appreciated by each and every
Nomad as well as our partners who benefit hugely from your generosity.
We are delighted to have many spouses joining us for the Hornbill Nationals, and I would like to extend a warm word of
welcome to each and every one of them. I have no doubt that the excellent array of activities on offer will be enjoyed
by all.

In conclusion, a word of thanks to all who worked hard behind the scenes to make this tournament a success and a
memorable one for all.

Enjoy the week as this may sadly be the last tournament held in its current format. I look forward to seeing you all at
the prize giving evenings!
