CARING FOR THOSE LESS FORTUNATE THAN WE ARE
The Nomads Golf Club of South Africa is built on 2 main pillars: Furtherance of SA Golf and caring for those less
fortunate than us.
It is my duty to manage the latter, and more specifically through our Andrew Mentis Endowment Fund (AMEF) ef-
forts.
It is the duty of the Vice-Captain of each of our 12 clubs to raise money
for the needy in their areas. They do this by identifying beneficiaries in
their area, obtain a wish list from those beneficiaries, and arrange proj-
ects to raise money. One of those projects will always be the annual AMEF
golf day at each club. Many Clubs have other projects such as race days, gentle-
men’s dinners and raffles.
The best part of the Vice-Captain’s year is then to hand over, or rather
pay the money over for those goods and services on the wish lists of
those beneficiaries.
As we head towards the end of our 2022/23 Nomadic year, Nomads can
be proud of another positive year in our Andrew Mentis fundraising ef-
forts, with an accumulative collection plan of R1,8 million as set by our
Vice Captains at the start of their year in office. All indications are that
they are well on track to achieve this goal by the end of their term.
The addition of a further R1.8 million bolsters our foundation of giving
back to “those less fortunate”. This raises our total AMEF funding and donations over the years to around R46 mil-
lion.
In some provinces the spend on a few projects started early in the year.
Most were completed by December. In these cases and at this time of the year it is seen as a “Christmas Miracle” by
our beneficiaries whose lives we have managed to touch ahead of the 2022 Festive Season and into the future, with
these long lasting tangible gifts.
The accolades for this year’s efforts must be proudly and collectively shared by all Nomads, our sponsors, partners
and our donors for all the support and generosity given year on year.
Congratulations and thanks to each and every VC and Nomad who assisted in their respective projects. All the best to
the new VC’s. Keep up the great work! I am indeed proud to be a Nomad.
