OUR FURTHERANCE OF GOLF EFFORTS THE PAST YEAR
We as Nomads can be proud of our contributions to Furtherance of Golf
(FOG) over the past year. The challenges faced over the past years due
to the pandemic, seem to be something of the past.
Thanks to the time and sacrifices made by our members we were prom-
inent and visible throughout the year. A number of clubs used the funds
allocated to them and were thanked generously by the recipients. We
are grateful to all those clubs who made an effort as all clubs have areas
that could have done with the funds that were made available to them.
The wish lists for this year were sent out and we are awaiting their
response.
FOG is in a healthy financial position and we could honour all our com-
mitments for the past year. We also continued with our wonderful rela-
tionship with our partner, GolfRSA.
I would like to thank the Captains and their members that have made
themselves available to assist with the different tournaments. Juniors,
Ladies and Disabled Golf benefited hugely. Their gratitude is evident
in the naming rights to some of their tournaments and we were given a
great opportunity for Nomads exposure.
I would like to appeal to the incoming captains to maximise their clubs’
efforts in assisting Golforama as this creates the funds needed for our
important Nomads pillar of FOG. They need competitive tournaments and that is exactly what we give them through FOG.
Our aim is to distribute funds to the value of R1.3 million to GolfRSA this year and R285 000 to our 12 clubs. The funds have
already been generated through the hard work put in by Ronnie Kingwill and his teams of volunteers. We always spend what we
earned the previous year, and the funds generated this year will only be available for next year’s budget.
FOG assisted Lily Reich from SA Disabled Golf with the renovations and installation of a practice area at the Mary Kihn School
to the value of R115 000.
The annual Nomads Girls Rose Bowl tournament was again the highlight of the girls’ calendar. We were, as in previous years, the
main sponsor to this event, run by Sarah Braude and her team at Women’s Golf SA. We also supported the junior boys well and
received many letters of thanks.
FOG plays a vital role in golf development in South Africa. This is one of our main Nomads pillars and makes us as Nomads proud
to see how our efforts benefit golf development.
I hope you all return to your clubs with inspired vigour and enthusiasm.
